Williams Court Apartments is an apartment community subsidized by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under the 202/8 program. To be eligible for these units, a prospective resident must have an income less than $33,050 yearly for an individual and less than $37,750 for a couple. Residents pay approximately 30% of their monthly income for rent. Utilities are included in the rent. Residents pay their own telephone bill and may receive cablevision at a bulk rate cost of $20.00 per month. Williams Court houses 136 one-bedroom units and 15 two-bedroom units. Fifteen are designed for mobility impaired occupants. All apartments are equipped with an emergency call system and smoke alarms. Twenty apartments are equipped with emergency strobe lights for hearing impaired persons. There is twenty-four hour staff coverage to respond to emergencies. With three full-time social workers on staff, we are able to offer residents assistance to supportive services, which enhance independent living. The building also houses a newly renovated Laundromat, a library, an exercise room, and a community/dining room. Williams Court offers a full range of activity programs as well, including arts and crafts, socials, movies, Wii games, exercise and Bingo. There are three noon time meal programs available. In 1995 Williams Court Apartments was one of twelve properties to receive a "Best Practices" award from HUD and the U. S. Department of Aging Services for the integration of supportive services into affordable elderly housing. In 2007 Williams Court was selected as the "Best Elderly Housing Facility" in Georgia by the Georgia HAP Administrators.
